CALHOUN, GA – The Sumter County 10u all-star football team defeated the Calhoun, GA 10u all-stars 28-6 to win the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) Class B State Championship on Saturday, December 8, at the Calhoun High School football stadium.

Running back AJ Kearse scored three touchdowns to lead SC to victory. Two of his touchdowns went for over 60 yards. Running back Jaylen Brown also scored a touchdown in the win.
Ironically, this is the same group that won the GRPA 8u State Championship two years ago. One could say that this bodes well for the future of middle school and high school football in Americus and Sumter County. “The SCPRD (Sumter County Parks and Recreation Department) is thrilled to claim another GRPA State Championship. When you have success at this level, you start with a very talented group of athletes and some very good coaches,” SCPRD Director Tim Estes said. “We certainly are proud of Coach Brandon Gooden and his staff and all of these fine, young athletes. It also takes the parents of these players investing in their children,” Estes continued.

Estes went on to say that Coach Dwight Harris does an excellent job of coordinating the SCPRD football program. “It really is a team effort with a lot of people working together,” Estes said. “To everyone involved in helping to achieve this goal, we are sincerely thankful.”
