• Firefighters responded to 42 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on North Lee Street where they cleaned up a radiator leak.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Americus Sumter High School, 805 Harrold Ave. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a report of an apartment fire on Knollwood Drive. They found light smoke coming from the rear of the apartment buy no fire. They found a kid’s battery operated car melted to the ground and smoldering, along with a 6×6 ft. area of pine straw, a 6 ft. section of a wooden 8 ft. tall fencing charred, and a section of vinyl siding about 10×25 ft. melted.
• Firefighters responded to Brady Road to a report of a natural gas odor. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a car fire on Manhattan Street. The arrived to find visible smoke and flames coming from the dashboard, which they extinguished.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on Rigas Road. They found smoke coming from the eaves of the two-story structure. The occupant advised the fire had been in the kitchen and was already out. They helped with salvage and overhaul and checked for extension and hot spots.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The alarm was unintentionally activated by construction.
• Firefighters responded to a fire at the former Manhattan Shirt factory on Tripp Street, aided by Sumter County Fire and Rescue. They extinguished the fire and shut down the sprinkler system.
• Firefighters responded to South Lee Street to a report of a transformer fire. They contacted Georgia Power.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on East Forsyth Street which turned out to be a malfunction.
• Firefighters responded to Beale Street to a report of a structure fire. The fire in the kitchen was extinguished.
