AMERICUS – The South Georgia Technical College women’s basketball team improved its overall record to 16-2 and its Georgia Collegiate Athletic Conference (GCAA) record to 8-0 by thrashing Andrew College (AC) 108-54 on Saturday, January 5, at the Hangar on the SGTC campus.

The Lady Jets are currently ranked 16th in the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 top 25 rankings.

The women’s game was never in doubt as the Lady Jets surged to a 58-27 halftime lead and turned it into a 54-point victory. This is the second time this season that the Lady Jets have scored over 100 points in a game. The first time was when they played AC in Cuthbert, GA on Saturday, December 8. In that contest, the Lady Jets routed the Lady Fighting Tigers 102-31.

Four Lady Jets were in double-figures. Sophomore forward Ricka Jackson led the Lady Jets in scoring with 16 points. She was followed by sophomore Fatou Pouye, who scored 15 points. Sophomore center Bigue Sarr scored 14 points and freshman Laky Samo came off the bench to score 11.

After the Lady Jets were done, it was the Jets’ turn to try and complete the sweep. However, they fell to the Fighting Tigers 86-71. SGTC came out strong, but the Fighting Tigers rebounded and took a 40-31 lead before the Jets made a 5-0 run to close the gap at 40-36 by halftime.

However, AC took over in the second half, pulling away to earn the 86-71 victory.

The Fighting Tigers are now 12-2 overall and 1-0 in the GCAA. The Jets are currently tied for eighth place in the conference with Southern Crescent Tech at 0-2. SGTC is now 4-12 overall.

Freshman guards Nick Cummings and Justin Johnson both scored 20 points to lead the Jets. Sophomore forward Adonis Green chipped in nine points in the losing cause.

Both the Jets and Lady Jets will face their toughest competition in conference play when they host Georgia Highlands on Wednesday, January 9. The Lady Jets will tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Jets’ game at 7:30 p.m.
