(Jan. 18-25)

• Firefighters responded to 37 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at SOJO, 1016 South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in which a gas pump had been damaged. There was no fire or release of gasoline.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on West Forsyth Street. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on East Forsyth Street. No hazards were found.

• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Best Western Windsor Hotel, 125 W. Lamar St. which was triggered by leaks, according to the owner.
• Firefighters responded to Sharon Drive to a report of a power line down. They blocked the roadway for about an hour and contacted Georgia Power.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Basket Factory Road as automatic aid to Sumter Coutny Fire & Rescue. There was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to Morris Drive to a report of a power line down and arcing. They were unable to gain access to the caller’s yard due to the power line lying across the street. They contacted Georgia Power and waited for their arrival, and blocked the road.
• Firefighters responded to Frieda Lane to a report of a power line down. They talked with the occupant and turned off the power outside the breaker box. They contacted Georgia Power and waited for their arrival.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on South Georgia Tech Parkway.
• Firefighters responded to Georgia Avenue where someone asked about having their chimney inspected for safety. They advised the occupant that they don’t inspect chimneys and to contact a a contractor.
• Firefighters responded to West Glessner Street to a report of burning smell. The occupant said the odor was coming from the basement. Upon investigation, fire personnel located an overheated sub pump and disconnected it. They advised the occupant to contact a contractor.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Crawford Street. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Hancock Drive. The smoke detector needed new batteries; there was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to Peachtree Street to an alarm. They were met by the occupants who said they burned food while cooking. Sumter County Fire & Rescue provided mutual aid.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Southerfield Road. A vehicle had collided with a natural gas device protective barrier, which was not damaged. The vehicle was damaged and leaking gasoline. Fire personnel sprayed a foam extinguishing agent.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Jenkins Road as automatic aide to Sumter Fire & Rescue. It was discovered that the homeowner had been spray painting and has sprayed too close to the detector.
• Firefighters responded to East Barlow Street for hazardous materials investigation. The occupant had evacuated the residence and told fire personnel about an odor coming from the laundry room. They found no hazards but called the gas department.

• Shontavis S. Dariso, 26, of 707 E. Furlow St., Americus; mandatory education for children between 6 and 15; released on bond. (1-17-19)
• Jacques J. Edwards, 37, of 114-B Paul St., Smithville; felony probation violation; jailed. (1-17-19)
• Remington L. Fowler, 30, of Eastman; failure to appear in court on a finger printable charge; released after fine paid. (1-17-19)
• Stephen B. Jackson, 25, of 110-D Jenkins Road, Americus; probation violation; jailed. (1-17-19)
