Shooting victim dies; charges to be upgraded

AMERICUS — The victim of a Friday morning shooting has died.

Americus Police Chief Mark Scott confirmed that Detri Nakee Reliford, who was shot in the head, succumbed to her injuries a 5:25 p.m. Saturday. She had been airlifted to a Macon trauma center Friday morning.

Authorities responded to the shooting scene on Starlight Circle at approximately 7 a.m. Friday and a suspect, Kenneth Lee Harvey, 33, of Americus, was taken into custody shortly before 10 a.m. on the Americus campus of Magnolia Manor. Harvey was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and is being housed in the Sumter County Jail. The police chief said the charges would be upgraded being that the victim died.

Americus Police, along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region III Americus office, and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, are continuing to investigate the shooting.
