• Firefighters responded to eight calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke detector activation at the Best Western Windsor Hotel, 125 W. Lamar St. They found the alarm was triggered by burning food on a stove.
• Firefighters responded to the Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd., to an alarm. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Mayo Street where they were met by the resident who told them all her smoke detectors were beeping. They replaced the batteries in the detectors and advised her to call the fire department the following morning to set up an appointment to have new detectors installed.
• Firefighters responded to East Furlow Street to an alarm. It was accidentally activated by cooking.
• Firefighters stood by at Georgia Southwestern State University for its Burning Man 2019 event.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at the Best Western Windsor Hotel, 125 W. Lamar St. It was activated by a toaster in a guest’s room.
