Authorities investigate two deaths in Lake Blackshear area

AMERICUS — The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the GBI Region 3 Field Office in Americus, are investigating two weekend deaths in Cobb.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Col. Eric Bryant told the Times-Recorder that a person was seen sitting on the porch of a residence with a firearm around 10:30 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of Flintside Drive on the Sumter County side of Lake Blackshear. He said when EMS and Sumter and Crisp County deputies arrived they found that the person on the porch was dead, and also found another body inside the residence.

The case is being treated now as a death investigation, Bryant said.
