(March 19-28)
• Firefighters responded to 33 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Horton Drive as automatic aid to Sumter County Fire & Rescue. An unattached shed was ablaze threatening nearby structures.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Oglethorpe Avenue. It was determined to have been activated by dust from a working contractor.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a gas tank explosion at Ameri Green Environmental Recycling, 109 Mathews Drive. They were told by occupants that while moving a gas tank machinery sparked and caused tank vapors to ignite. Fire personnel extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to Felder Street to a tree on fire. Upon arrival, they learned the occupant had dumped charcoal into the flower bed and ignited pine straw and a small shrub.
• Firefighters responded to Ecoflo, 300 Swett Ave., to a report of a vehicle fire. They found flames coming from a front-end loading tractor. They used wire cutters to gain entry and extinguish the fire.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on East Forsyth Street but it was false alarm.
• Firefighters responded to Linnie Street to a report of a possible structure fire. The home owner told them she had heard a popping noise and saw smoke in the laundry room. They found light smoke, and an electrical outlet that had overheated and burned. They ventilated the structure and advised owner to contact an electrician.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Lakeview Circle. It turned out to be a false alarm due to faulty wiring.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on Murphy Mill Road. The fire orginated from an unattended pot containing grease. Flames extended from the microwave oven to the cabinets above the stove. They extinguished the fire and cleared the smoke from the structure.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Vista Drive. Sumter County Fire & Rescue was already on scene. Homeowner said a painter was using a steamer to remove wall paper. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Sunset Park Drive. They were cancelled enroute.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Brady Road.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Brady Road but were cancelled enroute.
• Firefighters responded to U.S. Highway 19 South as automatic aid to Sumter County Fire & Rescue. They were cancelled enroute.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Madison Street. Resident determined it was caused by cooked food.
• Firefighters responded to North Hampton Street to a report of a wire down. They found a low phone line hanging across the street and placed it on the roadside.
• Firefighters responded to Wild Azalea Drive to assist Sumter County Fire & Rescue and were cancelled enroute.
• Firefighters responded to Barlow Street to a report of a gas odor inside a residence. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to East Forsyth Street to a report of heavy smoke in the area. It was found to be smoke inversion from a controlled burn enveloping most of the area.
