Garden club announces April Yard of the Month
Ellaville Rainbow Garden Club announced the winner of April Yard of the Month: Sammy and Mary Nan Pilcher. They have a lovely yard with azaleas most everywhere, and it’s so pretty, especially at this time of the year when everything is in bloom.
When you’re riding around and see the Rainbow Garden Club sign in a front yard, this designates the Yard of the Month. The signs are placed by a committee from the Garden Club.
We congratulate the Pilchers for receiving this special honor.

Schley Family Connection holds monthly meeting
At noon April 25, the Schley County Family Connection held its monthly meeting in the Social Hall and Dining Room of Ellaville Baptist Church.
John Greene welcomed everyone. Tee Reddish opened with prayer, after which a delicious spaghetti meal was served.
After lunch was a special program. April was Child Abuse Prevention Month. There were 128,490 cases of child abuse
reported in the state of Georgia, and 77 cases in Schley County. In order to raise public awareness in Schley County, pinwheels were placed in front of Schley County Elementary School during April.
Guest speaker, Jaime Hurst of Liberty House in Albany, presented the program on child abuse. She distributed information on child abuse.
Other Family Connection members gave their reports.
Heather Hathaway made her report on SADD and had students attending the meeting. Karen Albritton reported on Southwest Georgia CASA. State Rep. Mike Cheokas, R-Americus, reported on activities that took place in Atlanta this year.
Brian Hall, interim superintendent of Schley County Schools, announced the hiring of a new principal for Schley County Middle High School — Harley Calhoun of Albany. He also gave a list of special activities to take place in May. Graduation will be held at 9 a.m. May 25. There will be 95 graduates and 32 honor graduates this year.
Tee Reddish, interim principal of Schley County Middle High School, announced testing is coming up this week. Special recognition and honors banquets are coming up as well as sports playoffs.
Jim Outlaw of the Georgia Department of Labor Americus Field Office announced that there are a lot of jobs open now.
Nancy McMath Young announced some special activities that the local historical society is undertaking.
Linda Adams announced the art contest for Springtime Ellaville. The art show is being sponsored by the Schley Community Foundation. The winners will be announced at noon May 4 at Springtime Ellaville.
This was also a presentation from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
There were 33 in attendance. A special thank you goes to Ellaville Baptist Church for use of the space for the meeting.
The next Schley Family Connection meeting is at noon May 30 at Ellaville Baptist Church. This will be the annual Technology Awards Dinner and Recognition. More information will be announced later.

Ellaville Methodist Women holds monthly meeting
At 7 p.m. April 25, the Ellaville United Methodist Women held its monthly meeting in the church Social Hall.
Barbara Usry called the meeting to order, and Nora Morrow opened with prayer.
A business session was held during which they discussed Vacation Bible School, planned for June 23-26 for children of all ages. Anne Marie DeVane and Donna Dillard are in charge of the Bible School this year.
The United Methodist Women will be hosting an appreciation dinner for all of the senior citizens of the church.
Ann Gill gave a special program, “A Magic Bank Account.” Which everyone enjoyed.
Ann was hostess for the month and she served peach cobbler, pecan pie and coffee.
Those who attended, in addition to those previously mentioned, were Judy Gattis, Judy McClellan, Mary Ellen McCorkle, and Sharon Wall.
