ELLAVILLE — Charges will be filed against a female student at Schley County Middle School, according to Schley County Sheriff Shane Tondee. Because of the age of the girl, the sheriff will not reveal her name. She will be charged with making terroristic threats, and the matter will be handled in the Southwestern Judicial Circuit Juvenile Court, Tondee said.
The charge stems from an investigation into an incident that occurred on April 24 at Schley County Middle School. A student’s mother took to social media about the incident, writing that her daughter’s name was on “a kill list” along with the names of four other girls at the school. The mother wrote, “This girl [the one to be charged] made the comment, heard from several others, that she left her knife in her locker and did not have it on her when they went to gym.”
The parent on to say that her daughter called her from her personal cell phone, and not from the school office phone, crying and saying she and the other girls had been threatened at the school. The mother also posted that the school did not contact the parents of the threatened girls. She said her daughter was afraid to return to school.
The sheriff said no knives or other weapons were discovered after a search of the school, and he never saw any list. He said the student will be charged early next week.
Brian Hall, interim Schley County Schools superintendent, said all protocols were carried out regarding the incident and the school received assistance from adjoining agencies such as the sheriff’s office. On Friday morning, Hall told the Times-Recorder that because the investigation is ongoing and the age of the student, he could not comment.
