AMERICUS — Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter underwent successful hip surgery Monday after a fall at his home in Plains.

The Carter Center issued a statement Monday afternoon, which says that while the former president was leaving to go turkey hunting that morning, he fell and broke a hip, but after undergoing surgery at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, was recovering comfortably, and his wife, Rosalynn, was with him.

The statement also said, “President Carter said his main concern is that turkey season ends this week, and he has not reached his limit. He hopes the State of Georgia will allow him to rollover the unused limit to next year.”
