AMERICUS — Counterfeit bills are appearing locally, according to Americus Police Chief Mark Scott.

Some $50 bills and some $20 bills are circulating, according to the chief.

“Several businesses in Americus have reported receiving counterfeit $20 and $50 bills,” Scott told the Americus Times-Recorder. “Merchants are encouraged to train cashiers on how to recognize counterfeit bills, and to call law enforcement if they have someone present a counterfeit bill.”
