AMERICUS — Americus-Sumter High School recently recognized staff member Phyllis Dowdell as “Support Staff of the Month” for April. Principal Kimothy Hadley presented the award to Dowdell in a ceremony held in the school library. For her service, Dowdell received a brass plaque and then posed for a photo.

“I feel so honored to receive this award,” said Dowdell. “I’ve been working at the high school for the past 21 years and I love it now as much as I did when I started. My job brings me a lot of joy, especially getting to see the kids every day.”

Hadley spoke highly of Dowdell. “Ms. Dowdell is an important member of our team. She helps make sure students’ academic focus is met by providing nutritional meals daily. We appreciate her consistent and sincere dedication and effort.
