Schley Family Connection reports successes

The Schley County Family Connection has applied for a

$5,000 grant to purchase a new commercial stove, hood vent, and fire suppressor for the Ellaville Senior Citizens Center. The second is for an additional $5,000 grant for Communities Heart to Heart in Buena Vista to partially fund six programs for families and children in Marion County.

But there’s even more good news.

John Greene, coordinator for the Schley County Family Connection, received a $2,500 grant last week from the Flint Energies Foundation to purchase equipment and supplies for Communities Heart to Heart Buena Vista. He submitted an application for a $5,000 grant last week to purchase a new stove, refrigerator, and cooking supplies for Kool Kids Café, a program for special needs students at Schley County High School. John said please say a prayer that these grants are approved

An anonymous donor has donated a new desktop computer to be awarded to a 2019 Schley County High graduate who plans to attend college. John’s working with school counselors and teachers to identify a lucky candidate.

John met with the folks at the John Lewis Resource Center to discuss the Summer Café’ feeding program and possible ideas for grants.

He is continuing to raise funds for the Technology Awards Day on May 30.

 

Schley FFA paints house in conjunction with State Convention

The Schley County High School FFA attended the Georgia State Convention on April 15-17 in Macon.

The convention is a time in which FFA members all over the south come together for one massive Awards Banquet. The convention is organized and headed up by the Georgia FFA State Officers, and is a fun time for everyone.

The first day, a few FFA chapters took part in a community service project and went out to clean yards and paint houses. The Schley County FFA Chapter painted a house. Rebuilding Macon organized the projects and fed the chapters Chick-Fil-A.

During the convention. members were recognized for achievements such as winning a competition on the state level to earn their State Degree.

The chapters that took part in the community services had their photos on the big screen and were thanked by the State Officers. The members can add the hours toward their awards for their State and American Degrees.
