(June 6-9)

  • Firefighters responded to 10 calls for medical assistance.
  • Firefighters responded to an alarm at the City of Americus Utility Department Office, 1404 E. Forsyth St. The alarm sounded due to a malfunction; no hazards were found. The same thing occurred several hours later.
  • Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Forty Circle, as automatic aid to Sumter County Fire & Rescue. They were advised their assistance was not needed.
  • Firefighters responded to an alarm twice at Zaxby’s, 1204 Crawford St. No hazards were found.
  • Firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide alarm on South Lee Street. No hazards were found.
  • Firefighters responded to Prince Street to a report of someone trapped in an ambulance. They found an ambulance that had been involved in an accident with the door jammed shut. They extricated the patient.
  • Firefighters responded to the Elm Avenue and Glessner Street area to a report of smoke in the area. After investigating the area, they ascertained the rain has caused steam to rise from the pavement.
  • Firefighters responded to a smoke alarm activation on Brookdale Drive. It was activated by a pot left on the stove.
  • Firefighters responded to a report of a tree down on Horton Drive. They found a large tree limb on a car in a driveway.
  • Firefighters responded to Cotton Avenue to a report of wires down in the roadway. They found a cable wire and a co-axial wire down on the roadside. No hazards were found.
  • Firefighters responded to an alarm on Westside Drive, as did Sumter County Fire & Rescue as automatic aid. They found overheated food activated the alarm.
  • Firefighters responded to Oak Avenue to a report of power lines and tree limb obstructing the roadway. They found a large tree limb lying on top of an electrical line. They removed the line and, using a chain saw, cut the limb into small enough pieces to be removed from the roadway.

  • Trenell O. Durham, 21, of 609 S. Hampton St., Americus; felony theft by taking; jailed. (6-8-19)
  • Elsie L. Grimes, 60, of 522 W. Church St., Americus; misdemeanor theft by receiving stolen property, financial transaction card fraud, and felony failure to appear in court for a finger printable charge; jailed. (6-8-19)
  • Cory J. Hagan, 41, of 109-A Magnolia Court, Americus; felony aggravated assault again a law enforcement officer, cruelty to children in the third degree or subsequent offense, and probation violation; jailed.
  • Reginald C. Oliver, 35, of 1020 Simmons Drive, Americus; fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, too fast for conditions, and open container; released on bond. (6-7-19)

Arrest

  • Joshua J. Martin, 33, of 233 Howard Johnson Road, Americus; driving under the influence of marijuana or controlled substance; released on bond. (6-9-19)
