Looking back on another successful spring for the Blue Tide

AMERICUS – It has been another tremendous season for the Blue Tide Swim Team. This past spring, the Blue Tide had several swimmers do extremely well at the IMR/IMX Spring Fling hosted by the Columbus Hurricanes swim team.

In that meet, Annie Liston made her first-ever state cuts in the 10u 100-meter freestyle, the 200-meter freestyle and the 100-meter breaststroke events. Lanna Bell also made her second state cut of the season in the 10u 200-meter freestyle event. Landry Liston had a third-place finish in the 12u 100-meter breaststroke event and broke two Blue Tide team records with her times in both the 100-meter breaststroke and 50-meter breaststroke events.

Antony DeMott finished in first place in the 15& over 100-meter fly. DeMott also had two second-place finishes in the 200-meter freestyle and the 100-meter backstroke events. In addition to those accomplishments, DeMott finished in third place in the 200-meter individual medley event. Senior Grace Mix also finished in second place in the 400-meter freestyle event.

The Blue Tide also produced an excellent showing at the Coach Lee Invitational in Macon during the month of May. This was an outdoor meet in which the boys and girls swam against each other in various events. DeMott had another great showing. He had two first-place finishes in the 100-meter freestyle and the 100-meter fly events. DeMott also produced four second-place finishes in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, 200-meter freestyle and 200-individual medley events.

Annie Liston made her fourth state cut of the season in the 10u 50-meter breaststroke and turned in a third-place finish. Liston also brought home first place in the 400-meter freestyle event and finished in second place in the 50-meter freestyle event.

Landry Liston finished in first place in the 12u 100-meter breaststroke event and had two second-place finishes in the 100-meter and 50-meter backstroke events.

Erik Oman finished in second place in the 12u 400-meter freestyle event. Oman’s sister, Kennedy Oman, finished in second place in the 10u 100-meter fly event. Addie Walker finished in third place in the 100-meter fly.

The last May event for the Blue Tide was the Carol Tate Invitational at Emory University in Atlanta. At that competition, Erik Oman finished in first place in both the 12u 800-meter freestyle and 400-meter individual medley events. In the process, Oman broke two Blue Tide team records in those events. The girls’ 10u medley relay team also set a team record for the 200-meter medley relay. The members of the relay team included Lanna Bell, Kinlee Carter, Annie Liston and Kennedy Oman.

Annie Liston made her fifth state cut of the season in the 10u 400-meter freestyle event and brought home a second-place finish in addition to making the state cut.

Kennedy Oman finished in second place in the 10u 100-meter fly event at the IMR/IMX Spring Fling back in May. Oman was also a member of the 200-meter relay team that set an Blue Tide team record in that event at the Carol Tate Invitational back in May.

Landry Liston made her fourth state cut of the season in the 12u 100-meter backstroke event. In addition to that accomplishment, she brought home first-place finishes in the 100-meter backstroke, 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter individual medley events. Liston also finished in second place in the 12u 50-meter backstroke event.

Kinlee Carter competed in the 8u category and finished first in the 50-meter fly, the 100-meter freestyle and the 200-meter freestyle events. Carter also had second-place finishes in both the 50-meter backstroke and the 50-meter freestyle events and finished third in the 100-meter backstroke event.

In his first swim meet as a member of the Blue Tide Swim Team, Blake Ferdinand finished in fifth place in the 12u 100-meter backstroke.

DeMott was at the top of his game once again. He finished first in the 15u 100-meter freestyle and third in both the 100-meter fly and 200-meter freestyle events.

The Blue Tide’s success continued during the month of June as they competed in the ATAC Long Course Invitational in Tallahassee, FL on Thursday, June 27. The ATAC Swim Club hosted 20 different swim teams from South Georgia and North Florida. Out of the 20 teams that competed, the Blue Tide finished in sixth place overall.

Annie Liston finished as the second highest overall point earner in the 10u girls’ category with 151 points. In the process, Liston made her sixth, seventh and eighth state cuts in the 10u 50-meter freestyle, the 200-meter individual medley and the 100-meter backstroke respectively. Liston also finished in second place in seven other events: the 200-meter freestyle, 50-meter butterfly, 50-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle, 200-meter individual medley, 50-meter breaststroke and the 100-meter backstroke. In addition, Liston also finished in third place in the 100-meter breaststroke and the 50-meter backstroke.

Lanna Bell qualified for her third state cut in the 10u 200-meter freestyle event and also won third place in the same event. In addition to that accomplishment, Bell finished in third place in the 50-meter freestyle and placed fifth in the 100-meter butterfly event.

Kennedy Oman qualified for her first state cut in the 50-meter backstroke, while finishing in second place in that event. Oman also finished in fourth place in both the 100-meter backstroke and the 50-meter butterfly event. Oman also competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events and finished in fifth place in both of those events.

Landry Liston finished in third place in the 12u 100-meter breaststroke, the 50-meter butterfly and the 50-meter breaststroke events. Liston also took home a fourth-place finish in the 12u 50-meter backstroke and finished fifth in the 12u 200-meter individual medley. Taylor Humphrey also took home fourth place in the 14u 200-meter butterfly event.

On the boys’ side, Erik Oman finished in third place in the 12u 400-meter freestyle event and took home a fourth-place finish in the 12u 100-meter backstroke. Blake Ferdinand competed in his first ever Blue Tide swim meet and finished in fifth place in the 12u 100-meter backstroke.

The Blue Tide Swim Team will compete in the Hurricane Champs meet in Columbus, GA Friday through Sunday, July 12-14. This will be followed by the 14u Long Course State Championships, which will be held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta Wednesday through Saturday, July 17-20.
