AMERICUS — A kid riding a bike and struck by a car was airlifted out for treatment and is expected to be alright, according to Americus Police.

According to an accident report from the Americus Police Department, which investigated the accident, 10-year-old Christopher Wright was riding his bike at a “fast speed” south on Rogers Street at around 5:45 p.m. Monday when he approached the intersection with Parker Street. The young boy was unable to stop at the intersection and was struck by a pickup truck which was traveling west on Parker. The cause of the accident is listed as the biker failing to stop at the intersection. A witness, who was riding with Wright, told police he had told the boy to stop the bicycle prior to being struck.

Wright was airlifted from Phoebe Sumter Medical Center for treatment, according to Americus Police Chief Mark Scott, who said the child was still hospitalized late Wednesday, “in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries.”

The child’s mother, in published reports, said her son had experienced swelling of the brain and had been on a breathing tube.
