(July 11-16)
• Firefighters responded to 21 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to Lafayette Street to a report of a possible structure fire. Upon arrival, Sumter County Fire & Rescue was on scene. It was determined the fire started with a pot left on the stove. They ventilated the structure.
• Firefighters responded to Oglethorpe Street to a traffic accident. They found a U.S. Postal Service truck pulled to the roadside with no hazards.
• Firefighters responded to North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to report of wires down, but were cancelled enroute.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Citi Trends, 1536 Forsyth St. This a continuing false alarm.
• Firefighters responded to East Forsyth Street to a report of a smoking car. They found a radiator hose that had burst.
• Firefighters responded to a report of smoke inside a structure on West College Street. They found a malfunctioning A/C fan motor that was smoking. They cut off all the breakers and advised owner to contact an electrician.
• Firefighters responded to Murphy Express, 1698 E. Lamar St. to a gas spill. They cleaned up a 4- to 5-gallon spill from a hole in the pump hose line.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Melody Lane which turned out to be a false alarm.
• Firefighters responded to South Lee Street to a report a smoke odor in a house. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to East Glessner Street to arcing electrical equipment. They cut all power to the apartment and advised tenants not to turn it back on until an electrician checked it out.
• Firefighters responded to Ga. Highway 27 East to a report of a gas leak. They contacted the city gas department.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident between a large agricultural tractor and a passenger vehicle on South Lee Street.
• Firefighters went to a James Avenue residence and installed two smoke detectors.
• Firefighters responded to Pinecrest Drive to a report of a tree limb in the roadway.
