Georgia Southwestern State finalizes 2019 women’s soccer schedule

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University women’s soccer team has finalized their 2019 schedule. The Lady Hurricanes will play 18 matches and 10 of those matches will be played at home. Under third-year head coach Enrique Rodriguez, the Lady Hurricanes are looking forward to keeping a winning mentality both on and off the pitch.
GSW will begin their season on Thursday, September 5, when they host Brewton-Parker at 5:30 p.m. It will be the first time in eight years that the Lady Hurricanes will go toe-to-toe with the Lady Barons. GSW will then hit the road to play Middle Georgia State in Cochran on Thursday, September 10. The Lady Hurricanes return home to face Spring Hill College on Saturday, September 14, at 7 p.m. Another home match against Southern Wesleyan will follow this match on Wednesday, September 18, at 6 p.m.
After a road game against Shorter University on Saturday, September 21, the Lady Hurricanes will host Talladega College on Saturday, September 25, before closing out September at Peach Belt Conference (PBC) newcomer Albany State on Saturday, September 28.
The Lady Hurricanes begin October with back-to-back PBC home matches against Clayton State on October 2 and Georgia College on October 5. GSW will then hit the road to take on North Georgia on October 9 and Francis Marion on October 12 before hosting Emmanuel College on Wednesday, October 16.
The Lady Hurricanes will then host two PBC opponents: Young Harris College and Flagler College, on October 19 and 23 respectively. This will be followed by a road trip to UNC Pembroke on Saturday, October 26.
The defending 2018 PBC champions Columbus State pay a visit to Hurricane Field on Wednesday, October 30, for the final home match of the regular season.
The Lady Hurricanes will finish up the 2019 regular season with two matches in South Carolina. They will travel to USC Aiken for a match against the Lady Pacers on Saturday, November 2, at 1 p.m. A week later, the Lady Hurricanes will travel to Greenwood, SC for their final regular-season match at Lander University on Saturday, November 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
GSW returns 14 players, including six seniors. Coach Rodriguez’s squad will have six incoming freshmen who signed to play during the offseason. Two transfer student-athletes will also join the 2019 Lady Hurricanes, rounding out the roster to 22 players.
