AMERICUS — Mr. Terrell Athon passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at his home in Americus.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, at Central Baptist Church, with Dr. Bryan Myers and the Rev. Hugh DeLoach officiating. Burial was to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
The following gentlemen were asked to serve as pallbearers: Jeremy Cronemyer, Butch Watts, Larry Dillard, Kevin Kizer, Chuck Jones, Zack Tanner, Josh Athon, and Chris Hagerson.
The family received friends from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday at Central Baptist Church, and at other times at the family home, 202 Virginia Ave.
Mr. Athon was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Schley County, son of the late Thomas Jefferson Athon and the late Gladys Justice Athon. He was educated in the Schley County schools.
He married the love of his life, Edith Ettinne Musselwhite, on Feb. 15, 1947. They celebrated 69 1/2 years until Mrs. Edith preceded him in death in 2016.
He was a member of the staff of Southland Academy from 1979 until he retired in 1994.
Mr. Athon was an active member of Central Baptist Church where he was active in church activities and served as a deacon and member of the Senior Adults until his death.
He is survived by his daughters: Linda (Neil) Hagerson and Judy (Tony) Kennedy; and son, Ronnie (Pam) Athon; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
