ALBANY — State Rep. Ed Rynders, R-Leesburg, announced earlier this week his intention to resign from the State House. A portion of Sumter County is included in Rynders’ District 152.

Rynders has served in the State House for 17 years and told the Albany Herald that he has health issues that led to his decision to leave his seat with a year left on his current two-year term.

Rynders told the Herald that he and wife Jane have moved to St. Simons Island. He also said he had suffered a heart attack in June and was the recipient of three stents.

During his career, Rynders served as chairman of the House Government Affair Committee and secretary of the Appropriations and Health and Human Services committees. He also served on the House Transportation Committee, as chair of the One Georgia Overview Committee, and served on the Rural Economic Development Redistricting and House Republican Politics committees.

Governor Brian Kemp will set a date for a special election to complete the year left on Rynders’ term.
