AMERICUS — The Georgia Southwestern State University campus and surrounding community will come together to raise money and awareness for university projects on the Day of Giving, Oct. 10.
The projects include the renovation of the Florrie Chappell Gymnasium (future student/community activity center with membership opportunities), funding for Southwestern Promise Scholarships ($1,000 and $2,000 scholarships for all eligible students in the 56-county Southwest Georgia region), athletic facility improvements (for the baseball and softball hitting and training facility), academic improvement (faculty/staff research and activities to improve the learning experience), and the Southwestern Annual Fund (to fulfill student needs, GSW events, programs, and scholarships).
The 24-hour fundraiser will create excitement at the university and the surrounding Americus-Sumter County community through a multitude of activities, to be announced later. There will be challenges and prizes, community partnerships, promotions, and proclamations. Social media will be key in the success of the Day of Giving; however, face-to-face interaction will also be featured in the event’s partnerships.
Members of the Day of Giving planning committee have been busy organizing the event. The Americus Times-Recorder will continue to update the information in its print and online editions.
