First Friday Americus hosts Flashback Friday theme

AMERICUS — On Friday, Oct. 4, Americus will hold its monthly “First Friday” downtown-wide open house. The theme for this First Friday is Flashback Friday! Attendees are encouraged to dress in their favorite decade. Downtown businesses will have discounts, samples, giveaways, and more! Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with most shops and businesses staying open until 8 p.m. “First Friday After Dark” continues the festivities into the night after 8 p.m.

 

Businesses will be decorated in the decade of their choosing. Travel back to the ‘80s with food and discounts at Artfully Arranged Floral Shop & Gift Boutique. Love at First Sight will be rocking around the clock with a ‘50s-themed night of shopping and fun! The Americus Visitor Center will have an iconic ‘70s disco party with music and funky fare. The Americus Sumter County Arts Council will be celebrating the age of Flower Power and have themed activities for guests throughout the evening as well.

Local artwork will be on display throughout downtown. Mobile Glassblowing Studios will host ‘90s-themed glass blowing demonstrations throughout the evening. The Huss Foundation will display and sell local artwork in the gallery. Attendees can also take advantage of great shopping deals downtown on Friday night. Three’s Company Too, Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio, The Kinnebrew Company, The Maze, Mane Street Salon, Allie’s Boutique, and Café Campesino will all be open late with discounts, specials, food samples, and more! Sumter Cycling will also be hosting their “Ride with the Mayor” event so be on the look out for cyclists in costume this Friday night!

Everyone is invited to come experience the city’s art, music, food, wares and crafts. The Americus Street Trolley will provide attendees transportation during the event. The trolley will make a loop of the event and is provided by Americus Main Street, free of charge. All activities, exhibits and performances are free. This event is organized by Americus Main Street and the City of Americus. One of the goals of our organization is to cultivate downtown Americus’ economic and cultural enrichment by providing a platform for entertainment and social engagement to the general public on a regular basis.
