ATLANTA – Investigators with the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office have determined that a vehicle fire in Sumter County was intentionally set. The fire occurred shortly after 9:30 P.M. on Thursday, November 14. “The white 2012 Nissan Altima was parked next to a field adjacent to Thomas Mill Road in Plains, Georgia, when it was found. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Albany that same day,” said Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King. “If you have any information on the individual or individuals responsible, I ask that you call my Fire Investigations Unit at 1-800-282-5804.” Rewards are offered of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist(s). Calls are taken 24 hours a day and callers can choose to remain anonymous. Investigators with the Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office are assisting the Sumter County Fire Department and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office with this investigation.
