AMERICUS – Americus-Sumter senior guard Trae Brown scored 17 points to lead the Panthers to a 59-43 Region 1-AAAA victory over Northside (Columbus) on Tuesday, December 10, at Americus-Sumter High School (ASHS).

With the win, the Panthers stay undefeated and improve their overall record to 7-0 and their region record to 4-0.

During the early moments of the game, the Panthers didn’t look like a team that was undefeated and playing at a high level, which greatly concerned ASHS head coach Johnny Genwright. “We started out with no energy…didn’t look like Panther basketball,” Genwright said. “In the second half, we applied pressure and we were able to push away.”

In addition to Brown’s offensive production, senior shooting guard Quevoluia Willoughby scored eight points and senior point guard Melton McCoy scored six points. Juniors Jordan Wiley and Keldrick Flemming also scored six points each.

Up next for the Panthers is a region home game against the Syrupmakers of Cairo on Tuesday, December 17. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
