Reese scores 28 to lead Lady Panthers past Cairo

CAIRO, GA – Americus-Sumter (ASHS) senior guard Jelissa Reese scored 28 points to lead the Lay Panthers (18-1, 10-1) to a 69-47 Region 1-AAAA victory over Cairo on Tuesday, January 21, at Cairo High School (CHS).

Since suffering their first loss of the season in a 54-46 defeat at Carver last Saturday, the Lady Panthers have returned to business as usual. They dominated the Lady Golden Tornadoes of Monroe in a 69-22 rout on Monday in Monroe’s MLK Shootout, followed by Tuesday’s win over the Syrup Maids (11-7, 5-6).

Two other Lady Panthers were in double figures. Junior center Trinity Jackson scored 15 points and senior forward Brianna Pope poured in 10. Senior guard DeAsia Ford chipped in seven points in the winning cause.

Leah Perry led the Syrup Maids with 16 points and Chambria Vicks poured in 15.

ASHS will try to continue their winning ways and will try to keep pace with Carver in the race for the regular season region championship when they host the Lady Hawks of Hardaway (7-12, 5-7) on Friday, January 24, at 6 p.m. Carver currently sits a top the Region 1-AAAA standings with a region record of 12-1.

The Lady Panthers will then host Columbus on Saturday, January 25, at 6 p.m.
