GAINESVILLE, GA – The Americus-Sumter (ASHS) girls’ track and field team got their season started off on a high note when they competed in the RMA Last Chance Indoor Track Meet at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA on Saturday, February 1.

It was a meet that featured 24 teams with over 200 athletes competing.

“It was a very good pre-season opener for the girls,” ASHS head coach Shamicka Dyson said. “It showed us our areas of strengths and weaknesses, which we will definitely work on going into our spring track season.”

This is only the second time in ASHS history that the team has competed in the RMA Last Chance Indoor Meet.

Selliyah Owens finished second in the Girls’ High Jump competition by jumping 4-10 and finished in third place in the girls’ 400-Meter Dash in a time of 1:08.

Lakyra Waters finished in third place in the 55-Meter Hurdles and finished fifth in the Girls’ Triple Jump event.
