IMMEDIATE RELEASE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF AMERICUS

CHANGES IN GARBAGE COLLECTION DUE TO COVID-19

Over the past few days, we have all seen the impact within our communities regarding the potential presence of COVID-19 virus. As this situation continues to evolve, all of us are assessing how to best keep ourselves and those around us healthy and safe.

On behalf of the Mayor and Council and Advanced Disposal, we remain committed to keeping our local employees safe while continuing to service you without interruption.  In the best interest of the health and well-being of employees, we are suspending the pick-up of household bulk items and extra garbage bags outside of the cart.  These items pose the biggest risk to employees because the virus can survive on some objects from inside the home up to 72 hours or more.

Until further notice, Advanced Disposal will only pick up garbage contained within the cart.  Normal bulk item service will resume when the CDC lowers the risk factors.  This does not impact yard waste service or recyclables that are placed in the proper container.

If you have any questions, please contact Advanced Disposal at 229-928-1170.
