AMERICUS – Jennifer Robinson of Americus has joined South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) as its Special Services Coordinator effective immediately. The announcement was made by SGTC President John Watford, Ed.D. Robinson will report to SGTC Vice President of Student Affairs Eulish Kinchens.

Robinson graduated of Georgia Southwestern State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History and Political Science. She also has a Master’s of Science in Human Services from Capella University.

Robinson has worked with the Sumter County Schools since 2017 and has worked as a Speech Therapist Aid for the past eight months. Robinson served a Student Engagement Coach prior to accepting the Speech Therapist Aid position.

In addition to those jobs, Robinson also worked as a Program Facilitator for the Columbus Wellness Center and was a Foster Care Case Manager for NECCO. She also served as a Juvenile and Probation and Parole Specialist for the Department of Juvenile Justice.

“I am very excited about this opportunity with South Georgia Technical College,” said Robinson. “My primary goal is to help students with accommodation needs so that they can reach their full potential. Everything I have done in my professional career is assist students who have some type of need. I look forward to continuing to do that at South Georgia Technical College.”

As the Special Services Coordinator, Robinson will be responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating student support programs for special population students within federal, state, and local guidelines. She will also implement programs that will facilitate achievement of goals and objectives and conforms to all policies. Robinson will also assist college personnel with the analysis of needs and directions for improvement based on improvement team reports and develop classroom-based and/or distance learning training courses, using needs assessment and skill level analyses. In addition to those responsibilities, Robinson will also monitor the progress of program implementation, evaluate results, and recommend changes and improvement, as well as other duties as assigned.

Robinson revealed that as SGTC transitions to a distance learning format for the remainder of the Spring Semester, there could be challenges. “Moving to an online format may prove to be challenging for instructors and students. I am here to help,” said Robinson. “If you have questions or concerns about students that have had accommodations or who need accommodations, I will help. We can work together to make sure our students are getting what they need online.”
