Calvin Edward Starlin, of Americus, Georgia, passed away at his home on April 2, 2020 at the age of 73. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Alexander Starlin, of Columbus, Georgia, and son-in-law of the late Mr. and Mrs. Marvin L. Horne, of Americus.

Calvin was a graduate of Columbus High School where he played football, basketball, and ran track. Immediately following graduation, he attended the University of Chattanooga, where he continued to play football until he decided to serve his country by joining the military. Calvin joined the United States Army, where he obtained the rank of Sergeant and was a Special Forces Green Beret. After the Army, Calvin attended college at Georgia Southwestern State College, where he met his wife of 49 years, Ginger Starlin. While at GSW, Calvin joined and became an active member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. His hobbies included hunting with his children and grandchildren, fishing, playing golf, and being outside. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Calvin was a wonderful man with a very generous heart, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Virginia Horne (Ginger) Starlin, of Americus, one son, Marvin Alexander (Ander) Starlin and his wife Kellie Barrett Starlin, of Americus, and one daughter, Brooks Starlin Mechler and her husband, Scott Mechler, of Dahlonega, Georgia. Also surviving him are his grandchildren Addison Starlin, Barrett Starlin, Tyler Starlin, and Anderson Starlin, all of Americus, Grayson Mechler, of Dahlonega, Anna Mechler of Orlando, Florida, and Joshua Mechler, of Tallahassee, Florida. Other surviving family members include brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rick and Mary Kathryn Davis, of Americus, brother-in-law Marvin L. Horne, Jr. (Sonny), of Americus, and seven nieces and nephews.
