AMERICUS – The National Weather Service is expecting severe weather to occur this evening throughout much of North, Central and West Georgia, including Americus and Sumter County.

Sumter County Emergency Management Director Nigel Poole told the Americus Times-Recorder that due to the fact that several of the county’s severe weather sirens haven’t been working and due to the fact that the county’s storm shelters are closed because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, citizens of Sumter County should sign up for CodeRED so that they will receive accurate and prompt information. To sign up for CodeRED, go to www.public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/BF89A1045E23?isMobile=true. You can also text “AlertSumter” to 99411.

Stay tuned to the Americus Times-Recorder for more updates on the severe weather as the evening goes on.
