AMERICUS – As of 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) reports that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sumter County has risen to 369 and that a total of 26 deaths have been attributed to the Coronavirus.

On Monday, April 27, Phoebe Sumter Medical Center reported that 22 patients are being treated at the hospital for the Coronavirus. However, Phoebe Sumter CEI Brandi Lunneborg stated on the hospital’s Facebook page that the hospital is seeing fewer new positive cases in Sumter County and that the County has dropped from ninth to 11th in the ranking of counties with the most positive COVID-18 cases.

However, Lunneborg went on to say that while   positive cases in the county appear to be slowing down, they have not stopped.

“We had 60 new cases diagnosed between April 16 and April 23,” said Lunneborg. “It’s important to continue to practice social distancing, wear a mask, wash your hands and stay at home as much as possible.”
