AMERICUS – On Saturday, May 30, Furlow Charter School (FCS) will step into uncharted territory as 29 graduating seniors, including Valedictorian Moses Simmons and Salutatorian Mattie Lane, will receive their diplomas and will become the first high school graduating class in FCS history.

While other schools across the country will be holding virtual graduation ceremonies due to concerns over COVID-19, being that this is an historic occasion, FCS will hold its graduation on school grounds on Saturday, May 30, at 10 a.m.

“It will be outdoors here on the school grounds following social distancing guidelines,” said FCS Principal Valerie Duff. “We are going to try to live stream it because each graduate will only get four seats for tickets. We are not doing a virtual graduation. We’re going to do the real thing because this is our first graduating class so we think it’s really important to have a real ceremony for them.”

However, Duff went on to say that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the graduation ceremony will not be open to the public and that only those who have been invited can come.
