At 1:48 June 17, 2022, 911 dispatchers received a call about a non-responsive person at the Plains Experiment Station.  First responders found that the worker had been pinned under a grain bin elevator that had fallen. Once the man was freed from underneath the grain bin elevator, resuscitation efforts by Sumter County Fire Rescue and EMS began.  Resuscitation was not successful and the worker, now known as Michael Bailey of Blakely Ga., died from his injuries.

The Coroner’s Office and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office were on site working the scene Friday afternoon. OSHA will be handling the investigation into this work related accident.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Bailey.  Americus Times-Recorder will update as more information becomes available.
