GREENVILLE, SC – The Georgia Southwestern State University women’s soccer team (GSW) won its second consecutive match, handing Bob Jones University its first loss of the season by the score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, October 21.

GSW Senior Midfielder Geraldine Alvarez scored her first goal of the season nearly 15 minutes into the match and it gave the Lady Hurricanes the early 1-0 lead.

Much like their last match, GSW benefitted from an own goal committed by the Lady Bruins. It is the third own goal in two matches for the Lady Hurricanes.

The Lady Bruins (8-1-5) counterattacked when Sophomore Forward Ashlyn Schmidt scored a goal in the final 17 minutes that reduced the Georgia Southwestern lead to one goal.

GSW held the lead for the remainder of the match and won by the score of 2-1.

GSW Freshman Goalkeeper Alana Beddow saved five shots and was very solid between the pipes for the Lady Hurricanes.

GSW (5-7-3, 2-4-2 PBC) will continue their three-match road trip to face Middle Georgia (4-9-3) in a non-conference match at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
