Lady Hurricanes defeat USC Aiken 74-40

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University women’s basketball team (GSW) earned its third consecutive Peach Belt Conference win by defeating USC Aiken 74-40 Wednesday evening in the Storm Dome. GSW improved to 7-1 at home this season.

Destiny Garrett led the way by scoring a season-high 17 points, as she connected on eight of her 10 shots. Garrett added six rebounds and a pair of assists. She has tallied double-digit points in three of her last four games.

Jashanti Simmons continued her impressive season, as she scored 16 points. Simmons was successful on seven of her 11 shot attempts and she collected three boards, an assist and a steal. Simmons has scored in double figures in 10 games this season and this was the eighth consecutive game that she has finished a game in double figures.

Leah Johnson recorded her third double-double of the season, as she racked up 11 points, acquired 14 rebounds and made all five of her free throw attempts.

The final Lady Hurricane to amass double digit points was Kayhla Adams who earned 10 points as she made all four of her shot attempts in 17 minutes of action to go along with an assist and a rebound.

GSW gained the momentum early, outscoring the Pacers by six points in the first quarter. The Lady Hurricanes took charge from that point on and the Pacers did not have an answer for them.

GSW will wrap up its brief two-game home stand on Saturday with a showdown against league-leader Augusta University (11-4, 5-0 PBC) at 5:30 p.m.
