Trinity Poague Arrested on Felony Murder Charges

According to a Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) press release, 18-year-old Trinity Poague from Donaldsonville Georgia has been charged with Felony Murder, Cruelty to Children in the First Degree, and Aggravated Battery for the death of a toddler. She is currently booked in Sumter County jail without bond. The GBI stated that: “On Sunday, January 14, 2024, at about 2:00 pm, the Georgia Southwestern State University Police Department asked the GBI to investigate the death of a child.”

The GBI also stated that the arrest came after an unresponsive child was taken to Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus and died despite the hospital staff’s efforts.

Deputy Coroner Mathis Wright provided further details, stating that according to the birth certificate, the child’s name was Romeo Angles, the mother’s name was Sheyela Angles, and the father’s name was in question, as the man claiming to be the father had given a different name for the child than the one listed on the birth certificate. According to the birth certificate, the child was born June 25 th , 2022. The time of death was given as 4:28 p.m. on January 14 th , 2024. The autopsy was performed on Wednesday, January 17th. While Wright would not comment on the cause of death until the results came back from the crime lab in Pooler Georgia, he did state a physical examination revealed that “The baby did have some type of trauma.”
