Beatrice “Bea” Johnson Spann, age 95 of Preston, passed away and entered her forever home in heaven on Saturday, July 13, 2024 surrounded by her family and Sumter Retirement Village workers.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024 in the chapel of Aldridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Rev. Raymond Smith and Rev. Gary Cullison will officiate the service. The family will greet friends and extended family Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in the Centerpoint Community, in Preston, GA.

Beatrice Johnson Spann was born June 23, 1929 in Preston, GA. She was the daughter of the late Herschel Josephus Johnson and the late Willie Pearl Holley Johnson. Ms. Bea was a retired LPN nurse. She was a loving mother and grandmother devoted to helping her family and others. She enjoyed working outdoors, gardening, caring for her flowers and reading, especially her Bible..  Ms. Bea loved her Sumter Retirement Village family and they loved her. Ms. Bea was an inspiration to her family and friends and touched many lives. She fought a hard fight until the end. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Preston.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Pelfrey (Casey) of Phenix City, AL; two sons, Jay Spann and William H. Spann, Jr. both of Preston; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank Johnson (Susan) of Preston. Ms. Bea is also survived by three grandchildren, Scott Cook, Kelly Pelfrey Favors (Galin), Elizabeth-Claire “Liz” Pelfrey and five great grandchildren, Malana Johnston, Gabe Reed, Parker Favors, Gracie Favors and Declan Cook.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Bea was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Johnson Cullison and two brothers, R. E. Johnson and Buddy Johnson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, Sumter Retirement Village in Plains or to the American Cancer Society. The family has request friends to dress casual and comfortable due to heat.
