The West Central Georgia Community Action Council, or WCGCAC, announced on July 26th that representative Patty Marie Stinson has resigned as executive director of the council. WCGCAG administers federal grants for eight counties, including Sumter.

Stinson began as interim director in November 2023 and became executive director last May. Board Chair Jill Harrison addressed her resignation in a statement by the council: “We appreciate Mrs. Stinson’s service to the West Central Georgia Community Action Council, particularly her work in recruiting and securing a vibrant and skilled team, and in promoting our programs and services.”

When reached for comment, Stinson detailed the reasons for her resignation. “I own a funeral home, trying to run a campaign, and still trying to perform my duties as a state representative for 60, nearly 60,000 people, and there’s only one of me.”

Stinson gave a parting statement. “I wish West Central Georgia Community Action Council’s board of directors [and] it’s team well on it’s endeavors as they move forward serving the people of the eight counties. My focus has always been, is and will always be, providing the necessary services to the people, and they are on the right tract for that and I really wish them well, and I hope the community continues to get behind the work of West Central and support them as they move forward.”
