With Hurricane Debby having made landfall, many counties in Southeast Georgia can expect strong winds and flooding. While Sumter County is not in a flood watch zone, neighboring Crisp County is. Sumter residents can expect strong winds. EMA director fire Chief Jerry Harmon commented on the situation, advising citizens to; “monitor the wind, keep an eye out for the rain and flooded roads. There’s still a lot of unknowns as to . . .the amount of rain we’re gonna get.” He also mentioned potential for 30-40 mph winds. Harmon stated trees had already fallen. “We measured 17-18 mph winds this morning at the office.” He also stated that with the ground saturated and increasing winds, the risk was high for more downed trees.
