Southland Academy centerfielder Gracie Usher went 3 for 4 at the plate with two doubles, three RBIs and scored a run in earning the Raiders their first win of the season, a 14-1 victory over Windsor Academy in Macon.

WA got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning when with the bases loaded, Zoe Bishop was able to draw an RBI walk off SAR starting pitcher Riley McRee, but the Raiders responded in the top of the fifth with three runs on two hits and took advantage of a walk and an error. With runners at first and second with one out, Usher tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI double. Then Ila Johnson reached on an error that allowed Adler Rae Owens to score. Then Camille Cochran grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed Usher to score. At this point, the Raiders had a 3-1 lead.

However, there was much more to come from the SAR offense, as the Raiders would explode for 11 runs in the top of the sixth on seven hits and took advantage of five walks. The two big hits of the inning came off the bats of Johnson and Sarah Kate McRee, who drove in runs on RBI doubles. Usher also drove in another RBI on an infield single.

In total, the Raiders scored 14 runs on 13 hits and committed three errors, while WA scored just one run on six hits and committed four errors.

McRee got the start in the circle for the Raiders and earned the victory. In six innings of work, she gave up a run on six hits and walked two batters.

The Raiders (1-2) will host Baconton Charter on Monday in a make-up game. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
