The Schley County Wildcats (SCHS) had a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning against Westfield (WS), but the Hornets changed the course of the game by scoring six runs on six hits in the fifth to take an 8-4 lead. The Wildcats tried to make a comeback and scored a run in the top of the seventh when Summer Smith grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed a run to score, but it would not be enough as the Hornets would go on to defeat the Wildcats 8-5 on Monday at the Westfield School.

Emma Campbell led the Wildcats’ offensive attack by going 2 for 3 at the plate and Kali Bishop went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Bishop grounded into a double play, but drove in an RBI when Dixie Justice scored. The Hornets tied the game in the bottom of the second when Madeline Kats drove in a run on an RBI double, but the Wildcats countered with two runs in the top of the third inning. Emilyn Sizemore drove in a run on an RBI double and Kali Bishop singled in a run.

The Hornets responded in the bottom of the fourth with a run, but the Wildcats countered with a run in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.

Unfortunately for SCHS, trouble began at that point in the top of the sixth, as the Hornets exploded for six runs to take an 8-4 lead. That inning would set the tone for the rest of the game and the Wildcats would go on to lose by the score of 8-5.

Lauren Davidson got the start in the circle for WS and got the win. She gave up four runs on five hits over five and two-thirds innings. She struck out one batter and walked three. Alyssa Harry took the loss for the Wildcats. In six innings of work, she gave up eight runs on 12 hits with two walks and no strikeouts.

SCHS (2-2) will try to bounce back from the loss when they host Lee County on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
