The Sumter County High School Softball Team (SCHS) improved its record to 3-0 on Tuesday when they defeated Dougherty by the score of 21-8 at Dougherty Comprehensive High School.

The Panthers benefited largely on 18 walks committed by Dougherty pitching, but SCHS also got timely hitting from Isis Snipes and Tadaisha Aldridge, as they both led the Sumter County offensive attack. Snipes went 3 for 4 at the plate with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored while Aldridge went 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI and four runs scored.

Madison Shelton went the distance in the circle for the Panthers. In four innings of work, she gave up eight runs on six hits, walked three batters and struck out eight.

Sumter County scored six runs in the top of the first inning, thanks largely in part to four walks. Dougherty countered with three runs in the bottom of the first, but the Panthers exploded again with six runs on one hit in the top of the second inning.

SCHS would add three more runs in the top of the third inning on two singles and would take advantage of two walks. Dougherty countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, but the Panthers would put the game away for good in the top of the fourth inning by scoring six runs on four hits and took advantage of four walks.

SCHS (3-0) will try for their fourth straight win when they travel to Columbus on Thursday to take on Spencer. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
