The Board of Elections meet in the Commissioner’s meeting room at 4:30 pm on Sept. 3. Chair Dr. Shirley Latimore spoke during chair highlights. “I respectfully request, as the board of elections that we stand and work together. That’s my way of saying that we want to prove to the community that we have a fair and transparent election. So we’re looking for team Sumter.” She stressed the importance of insuring everything was fair, transparent, and followed the proper codes.

Elections Supervisor LaSandra Patterson gave her report. “As of today, we have 19,268 registered voters, we have over 300 absentee ballot applications prepared and ready to be mailed, we’re just waiting on the ballots to be approved and sent.” She also mentioned that they had received new election equipment over the last six months. Patterson gave the date for poll worker training at South Georgia Technical College as Sept 14. Patterson also suggested Dominion for their election’s technician, giving a quote of $11,550.

Board of Elections member Carson Walker asked if the price set by Dominion included run-offs. Patterson replied that she didn’t know.

Walker replied. “I understand we’re going to have three counts. We’re going to have audits. These people need to know they got to go for the long run.”
