Courtney Stoops, an education program specialist who works with the Georgia Department of Education and the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park, shared details about the postcard contest. “The postcard contest happens every year. It’s been going on for about 15 years, and it’s something that honors President Carter every year and the peanut festival, so every year the theme involves President Carter and peanuts in some way. So this year’s theme was happy 100th birthday President Carter, and students made postcards from across the country. We had winners from New Jersey and Washington, DC, and we had over 4800 postcards that were entered into the contest this year.”
She listed the organizations that sponsor the contest. “The Friends of Jimmy Carter and the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park, and then the Georgia Department of Education are the sponsors of the peanut contest.”
