The Sumter County Board of Education met on November 14 holding recognitions. Barbara Lewis was recognized in the transportation department, Perry Burton was recognized in maintenance, Kimberly Herrin was recognized among central office staff, and Dr. Andrea Ingram was recognized as District Director.

The exemplary students for the first 9 weeks were as follows. For Sumter County Primary School, Draco Mayes in pre-kindergarten, Raleigh Gardner in kindergarten, and Laysie Coons in first grade.

For Sumter County Elementary School, Mckenzley Waymon was recognized in second grade, and Josiah Willis in third.

For Sumter County Intermediate School, Kenvi Patel was recognized in fourth grade, Eden Mann in fifth, and Kylen Hudson in sixth.

For Sumter County Middle School, Jose P. Diaz Perez was recognized in seventh grade and Indya Cooper in eight.

For Sumter County High School, Jy’Tyria Hurley was recognized for ninth grade, Messiah Brown for tenth, Kailyn Mansfield for eleventh, and Peyton Banach for twelfth.

Further recognitions for Sumter County Intermediate School are as follows: Student Jarrius Woods, parent Kamesha Sims, staff Lakeshia Mann, Tracie Pitts in nutrition, and custodian Little Peterson.

Superintendent Walter Knighton gave the superintendent’s report. For the month of October, SPLOST collections were $451,752.07, Georgia Power bill was $35,760.01, the water, sewer, and sanitation bill was $23,946.83, the City of America’s energy bill was $1,915.03, the cell phone bill was $1,746.37, and the combined October and September Sumter EMC bill was $106,263.91. Knighton also gave the millage rate as 18.057, with one mill generating approximately $755,796. He gave the annual budget as roughly $54,323,288.
