The first showing of Elf the Musical was performed by the Sumter Players in The Rylander on December 6. A convincing, high-energy performance was made by Bo Forehand, who played Buddy the Elf. A range of other local and regional actors kept the audience entertained with songs, dances, and performances that provided humor and whimsy.
First time visitor to the Rylander John Eddinger shared his reactions. “It was fun. It was a lot of laughs. It was interesting too. I was not familiar with the story at all, I’ve not seen the movie, so first exposure to it.”
Marta Wood stated her appreciation for the acting, songs, and scenery. “It all flowed together.”
Her husband Kelly Wood concurred. “They did a really good job.”
Their daughter, Isabella Wood, commented. “It was funny.”
Marta Wood expressed anticipation. “We look forward to more good shows.”
Mark Poole also told of his appreciation, telling how Nigel Poole, who played Walter, is his son. “They did a fabulous job. We’ve been to so many of these, and this is the best one yet.”
He recalled past plays. “We’ve been to Oliver, we’ve been to Nutcracker, we’ve been to Annie. . . we’ve become quite the theatre buffs.”
He shared his favorite scene from Elf. “The last song that my son was in. His scene made me cry.”
