Former President Jimmy Carter funeral schedule released

The Joint Task Force-National Capital Region and The U.S. Army Military District of Washington released the funeral schedule for former President Jimmy Carter. Times are subject to change.

Saturday, January 4

10:30 a.m. The motorcade will depart Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and travel to Carter’s hometown of Plains.

10:50 a.m. The motorcade briefly pauses at Carter’s boyhood farm.

3 p.m. The motorcade will arrive in Atlanta and pause before the Georgia State Capital for a moment of silence observed by Gov. Brian Kemp, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, Mayor of Atlanta Andre Dickens, and other leaders.

3:45 p.m. Carter’s remains will be carried into the Carter Presidential Center.

4 p.m. A private service will be held at the Carter Presidential Center.

7 p.m. Mourners will be able to pay their respects.

Tuesday, January 7

2:15 p.m. The funeral procession marches to the U.S. Capital taking Pennsylvania Avenue, turning left onto Constitution Avenue.

7 p.m. Carter’s remains will be lying in state open to the public until midnight.

Thursday January 9

7 a.m. Lying in state will conclude.

9:30 a.m. Carter and his family will come to the Washington National Cathedral.

3:30 p.m. An arrival ceremony will be held at Maranatha Baptist Church. A private funeral ceremony will be held shortly after.

4:45 p.m. The funeral procession attended by family will travel through Plains.

5:20 p.m. The motorcade will arrive at the Carter residence for a private burial. The U.S. Navy will conduct a missing man formation flyover honoring President Carter shortly before the motorcade arrives.
