SAM Shortline

The SAM Shortline train has an exciting lineup of excursions planned for 2025, starting with a double dose of the popular Valentine’s Day train. The romantic dinner train will depart on February 8th and 15th. The two-hour ride leaves from Georgia Veterans State Park at 6:00 pm and returns at 8:00 pm. The elegant, three-course prime rib, chicken, or vegetarian meal can be supplemented with a shrimp cocktail for an additional fee. A train ride-only option is also available, and the concession car will be open and fully stocked. The night is sure to make a fond memory.

The regular Saturday trips to Americus, Plains, and Archery from Georgia Veterans State Park begin February 22nd. Passengers will ride in air-conditioned vintage railroad cars to President Jimmy Carter’s hometown and boyhood farm. The Sumter Explorer, with dates in February, March, April, July, and October, adds a stop in Americus.

In addition to regular excursions, the SAM is planning many special trips that are guaranteed to provide memorable adventures. These special trains include the Murder Mystery Dinner trains, Wine and Cheese tasting trains, Thomas the Tank Engine specials, and Fourth of July, Halloween, and Christmas specials.

The 2025 Wine and Cheese tasting trains will run in May and October; Plains, Trains, and Fireworks is scheduled for June 28th; the Peanut Festival Special will run September 27; and Murder Mystery Dinner Trains are planned in April, September, and November. Thomas Tank Engine will return for three weekends in June.

The three vintage private cars are available on all the dinner trains and on many other excursions with expanded meal selections.
