Healthy Sumter distributed 600 fresh produces on MLK Day 2025. Each box contained a combination of a cabbage, onions, oranges, apples and sweet potatoes.
This event was made possible by donations from the following organizations: Calvary Episcopal Church of Americus; Grateful Hands Home Care, LLC ; Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and Flint River Fresh, LLC. This event was part of the Healthy Sumter initiative to address Food Insecurity in Americus & Sumter County as well as neighboring counties. Other initiatives include eliminating Food Deserts by creating community gardens and teaching people how to create gardens at their own home.
Special thanks to EMA Director Jerry Harmon, Farmer Fredo of Flint River Fresh, Samuel Mercer, Hank Head, Clint Perdue and Shonda Boddie of Phoebe Sumter, Marvin Harris, Eric Finch, Stephen Woodson, Reverend Gerilee Nelson and the Calvary Episcopal Church family, Ciera Raven and staff of Graceful Hands Home Care, LLC, Angelic Holmes & Dakota Pierce of Wal Mart of Americus, The Americus Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
